SUMMARY:Diversity & Inclusion Post-Affirmative Action Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:On June 29, the Supreme Court changed the face of college admissions, ( https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/06/29/us/affirmative-action-supreme-court ) with ripple effects likely to span from the classroom to the boardroom ( https://www.linkedin.com/posts/silicon-valley-leadership-group_the-supreme-court-has-ruled-against-the-use-activity-7080244701555019776-MV1M?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop ). This ruling is significant, and has the potential to alter the course and very composition of our academic, public and private institutions. More recently, both public officials ( https://www.reuters.com/world/us/republican-state-officials-threaten-legal-action-over-company-diversity-policies-2023-07-13/#:~:text=A%20group%20of%20Republican%20U.S.,affirmative%20action%20in%20higher%20education. ) and private actors ( https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/08/22/diversity-fellowships-lawsuit-affirmative-action-employment/ ) have interpreted the ruling as a chance to attack DEI efforts in the employment space.\nSVLG and our members remain committed to removing barriers to opportunity and racial equity. As such, we invite you to join us in-person at our San Jose offices to continue this vital conversation. Those of you who were able to join us for our kickoff conversation in the immediate wake of the ruling will have heard from two subject matter experts regarding the facts of the case. Moving forward, it is imperative to develop further solutions  for maintaining diverse and inclusive workplaces within a shifting  legal paradigm. We are pleased to host Stanford Law Professor Ralph Richard Banks, ( https://law.stanford.edu/directory/ralph-richard-banks/ ) Faculty Director of the Stanford Center for Racial Justice, who will lend his expertise.  \nThis event is geared towards business leaders, college & university faculty, DEI/RJE practitioners & allies of the above. If you wish to learn more about the regulatory status of planned or ongoing DEI, or about proactive, innovative approaches to sourcing talent within an evolving legal landscape, you are especially encouraged to attend.\nMark your calendars – September 22, 1pm! We hope you can join us for this very important and action oriented discussion. \nSpace is limited. First come, first serve.
