DESCRIPTION:Following a near-record budget surplus of $97.5 billion in 2022, California’s budget this year will be drastically different. Governor Newsom’s budget proposal projects a $22.5 billion deficit, and to balance the budget, he has called for cuts to transportation, climate change funding, and more.\nHow will the budget change in the coming months during negotiations between the Governor’s team and lawmakers?\nOn Wednesday, January 25, we will virtually host Joe Stephenshaw, Director of the California Department of Finance, Christine Aurre, Governor Newsom’s Deputy Legislative Secretary, and Marisa Lagos, KQED’s Correspondent for California Politics and Government, who will share their insights on what lies ahead and what impact a new budget will have for Silicon Valley’s innovation economy and California at-large.
