Overview

California is the epicenter of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution. Our state – which is home to 35 of the world’s top 50 AI companies in the world – is at the forefront of leveraging AI’s potential for societal benefit across government, technology, healthcare, transportation, and more.

Given California’s pivotal role, state policymakers and regulators are on the leading edge of seeking to establish market-moving policies and oversight.

In 2023, SVLG launched the Institute for California AI Policy (ICAP) to become the unified voice of the technology and innovation economy on AI matters in Sacramento.

Today, ICAP serves as a trusted, non-partisan platform where the public and private sectors converge to translate AI theory into responsible, real-world implementation. We are proponents of responsible innovation, hyper-focused on practical adoption, and dedicated to connecting local AI solutions with emerging global standards.

Research & Thought Leadership

Building on its initial success in developing California’s first community-college-level AI and Machine Learning (AI/ML) curriculum, ICAP is currently supporting two new initiatives that engage SVLG members and public sector partners to advance AI deployment and workforce intelligence strategies across California:

Engaging with SVLG members and California municipal leaders to develop strategies and tools for how California can maximize the benefits of AI technology adoption to enhance public sector services delivery, led by ICAP Fellow: Jake Brymner.

Equipping California policymakers, residents, and employers with workforce intelligence and digital infrastructure to navigate workforce transition ahead of the AI disruption wave, led by ICAP Fellow Yeo Yong Kia in partnership with  Shira Frank and Tim Marple from Maiden Labs.
